Wilbur A. Sturwold age 90 of Russia, Ohio died at 9:24 AM Sunday, March 5, 2023 at his home in Russia. He was born February 12, 1933 in St. Patrick, Ohio to the late John & Mary (Dwenger) Sturwold. He married Mary Jane Luthman on June 27, 1959 in St. Patrick Church, St. Patrick, Ohio. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2007. He is survived by his children: Kathy Sturwold & Jim Joyce, Russia, Ohio, Robert Sturwold & Barbara Hill, Houston, Ohio, Barbara Brandewie & fiancé Bill Gelhaus, Minster, Wilbur “Bill” J. & Carrie Sturwold, Fort Loramie, David & Kelly Sturwold, Minster, grandchildren: James Vondenhuevel, Megan Brandewie & Joe Buehler, Holly Brandewie, Nicole Brandewie, Kayla & Josh Wehri, Kelsey & Tanner Wiley, Troy Sturwold, one great grandchild: Maxine Buehler, brother John & Marlene Sturwold, Minster. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Eleanor Vondenhuevel, siblings: twin brother Gilbert Sturwold, Clarence & Helen Sturwold, Marilyn & Virgil Gaerke, Ralph & Mary Ann Sturwold, Irma & Charles Wendeln, Norma & Warnie Alexander. HE was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia. Wilbur proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953- 1955, while stationed in Orleans, France. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from General Motors after 40 years. He was a member of the Russia Catholic War Veterans #661, Fort Loramie American Legion Post #355, Minster Eagles F.O.E. #1391, Versailles Eagles F.O.E. #2347, Covington Amvets #66, Celina Moose Lodge #1473. He enjoyed playing cards, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He loved watching baseball games, cutting wood and cruising around in his convertible. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Remy Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia from 3 to 7 PM on Wednesday, March 8 and from 9 to 9:30 AM on Thursday.
