Viona K. Wermert, age 89, of Coldwater, died May 31, 2016 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. She was born November 8, 1926, in Egypt, Ohio, to the late Anthony & Mathilda (Hoying) Schmiesing. On April 14, 1951, she married Virgil Wermert, who survives in Coldwater. She is also survived by two sons, Thomas & Catherine Wermert of St. Louis, Missouri and Jim & Nancy Wermert of Coldwater, six grandchildren, Stephanie Nichols, Abbie Burk, Julia Eyink, Joe Wermert, Maria Muhlenkamp and Rachel Wermert, a step-grandchild, Lauren Marr, four great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and in-laws, Yolanda Schmiesing of New Bremen, Jeanette Schmiesing of Minster, Herb & Carol Wermert of Coldwater and Carl & Rosie Wermert of Sidney. She was preceded in death by brothers, sisters and in-laws; Walter & Mary Ann Schmiesing, Georgiana & Edward Wendeln, Elmer & Dorothy Schmiesing, Gregor Schmiesing, Maurice Schmiesing, Don & Joan Schmiesing and Rita Schmiesing and in-laws, Evelyn & Homer Freisthler, Erma & Joe Barlage, Jeanette & Gerald Doorley and Joan Wermert. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, St. Ann’s Ladies Sodality and enjoyed dancing, country music and traveling. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. Memorials may be made to State of the Heart Care.
