Thomas “Tom” Poeppelman, age 61 of McCartyville, Ohio passed away Friday, January 9th, 2026 of natural causes. He was born on April 3, 1964, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Donald “Don” and Verona “Ronni” Poeppelman of McCartyville. He married Laura Maurer on August 16, 1997, and she survives in McCartyville. He is also survived by his children: Nathan & Brooke (Raterman) Poeppelman, Orlando, FL, Evan Poeppelman, Troy, Ohio, Alex Poeppelman, Owen Poeppelman, and Emma Poeppelman, all of McCartyville. His brothers John & Amy Poeppelman, David & Denise Poeppelman and sisters, Cathy Hoying, Linda and Larry Homan, and Margie and Ron Bruns. Brother-in-law Jack Maurer, Don and Patricia Maurer, Rick and Jane Maurer, Paul Jr. Maurer and Sister-in-laws Dale and Kathy Gaier, Richard and Therese Borgerding, Rick and Patty Luttmer, Jim and Becky Suhr. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Steve Hoying and sister-in-law Deb Maurer.
Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCartyville, Ohio. He was a graduate of Anna Schools and retired from Honda in 2023 after 32 years. Tom loved his family and friends deeply and found great joy in simply spending time with those he loved. He was a devoted supporter of his children, rarely missing their school activities or sporting events, and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds. Tom enjoyed camping, being outdoors, and traveling with family and friends, sharing many memorable adventures around the world with his wife, Laura, and their children. Known for his kind and humble spirit, Tom had a gentle way of making others feel at ease. He was a comforting presence—someone people naturally sought out—whose warmth and quiet strength left a lasting smile on the faces of all who knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Monday, January 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church, McCartyville, Ohio with Fr. Steve Mondiek celebrant. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2 PM to 6 PM and on Monday, January 19 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart McCartyville Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Philomena Montessori School at Sacred Heart Church. Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com
