Shirley Ann (Schwieterman) Mertz age 78, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Monday February 25, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born December 28, 1934 to the late Charles and Hilda (Marx) Schwieterman. She married William A. Mertz on June 23, 1954. They had nine children. She was preceded in death by a son, William B. Mertz. She is survived by her husband William Mertz and eight children: Kathleen (Bing) Schmidt of Celina, Susan (Dean) Leffler of California, Deborah (Jeff) Whetstone of Wapakoneta, Lisa Curles of Georgia, Nancy (Alan) Roman of Missouri, Michael (Jackie) Mertz of Celina, Mary (Timothy) McFadden of California, Charles (Carol) Mertz of Celina. She was also blessed with 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Linda (Carl) Meyer of Versailles, Connie (Tom) Grimm of Celina and brothers, Charles (Janice) Schwieterman, John (Mary) Schwieterman and Ronald (Karen) Schwieterman all of Celina.
Shirley was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Celina where she volunteered as a communion server and was a member of the Altar Rosary. She enjoyed many years of farming and eventually started her own Mertz Real Estate business. She loved spending time with family and friends and was well known for her optimistic outlook, "This is the best ever!"
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00a.m. on Saturday Mar. 2, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth G. Alt C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina. Friends may call from 2-8p.m. on Friday March 1, 2013 and before 9:30a.m. on Saturday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home.
