Sheri Hanes

April 19, 1970 — February 26, 2026

Greenville

Sheri L. Hanes, 55, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away February 26, 2026, at her home following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born April 19, 1970, in Coldwater, Ohio, to James and the late Judy (Klosterman) Rentz. She is survived by her husband, Nick Hanes, whom she married on Oct. 11, 2014; her children, Dylan Platfoot of New Bremen, Derek and Casey (Patterson) Platfoot of Maria Stein, and Hailey Platfoot of Greenville; and her grandchildren, Jameson and Joslyn Platfoot. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Reed Hanes (Olivia Richardson) and Morgan Hanes, both of Greenville; her father, James Rentz of Coldwater; her brothers, Doug and Alicia (Darding) Rentz of Urbana, and Nick and Gretchen (Grilliot) Rentz of Minster; her niece, Emma Rentz; her nephew, Xavier Rentz; father- and mother-in-law David and Vickie Hanes of Greenville; along with extended family members and many dear friends.

Sheri was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She had a warm and welcoming spirit that made everyone feel valued and at ease. Family was central to her life, and she shared a special bond with each of her 29 first cousins of the Walter and Alvina Klosterman family. She loved to laugh and often shared memories that she cherished growing up in the 1980s. She was a proud graduate of the Coldwater High School Class of 1988.

She developed a lifelong passion for caring for animals, loving her many pets, and raising cattle at a young age, beginning her journey in the show ring at the Mercer County Fair. Over the years, she earned numerous honors for Creek Side Farm, including multiple county grand champion steers and a national champion steer at the National Junior Angus Show. She, her husband Nick, and son Reed later founded Hanes Show Cattle, where they have raised, exhibited, and sold many national champions.

Sheri and Nick enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Siesta Key, Fla., and took great joy in hosting family events, holiday gatherings, and pool parties at their home. She had a generous heart and delighted in surprising those she loved with thoughtful gifts and little tokens of appreciation, always giving more than was expected and finding joy in making others smile.

Sheri was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Montezuma, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on March 4 at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, 715 E. Main St., Coldwater.
