Sally A. Baumer 82, passed away surrounded by family at 3:35 PM Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Heritage Manor, Minster, after suffering a stroke the week before. Sally was born January 30, 1941 to Harry and Jean (Crothers) Schemmel. She married Stanley W. Baumer, February 11, 1964.
Her husband survives, along with her children, Jim Baumer (Amy) of Evendale, Ohio, Judi Stewart (Erik) of The Villages, Florida, and John Baumer (Angie) of Hilliard, Ohio; 9 grandchildren: Brandon, Brittany, Ashley (Andrew de Peel) Alexandra, Bradley, Tyler, Nathan, Madison (Trevor Lindell) and John Ross; 4 Great Grandchildren: Kaiden, Kyler, Krew and Lauren. Gene Schemmel, her only sibling, is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Sally graduated from Holy Angels High School and Carnegie College. She worked for many years as a Medical Technician at Wilson Memorial Hospital and as an office manager in a number of the doctors’ offices in Sidney, Ohio. She served as the Director of the Shelby County Medical Assistants and was an original member of the Anna Rescue Squad. She was Director of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, a representative for the Girl Scouts to the Ohio State Fair Board, an usher for 25 years at The Ohio State football games and a member of the Redhat Ladybugs. Her passions included supporting her children in their various athletic and band activities at Anna High School. She greatly enjoyed Ohio State Football and Cincinnati Reds games and was an avid bowler on many women’s leagues in Sidney. Whether celebrating with family, working or volunteering, Sally’s smile was noteworthy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, McCartyville, Ohio on Thursday, August 10, 2023, with viewing in the gathering space from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. at the church follow by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Van Buren Twp. Fire Department in her memory. Condolences may also be sent to the family on the funeral home’s web site at www.hogenkampfh.com.
