Robert (Bob) William Ehlers, age 87, of North Star, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 8, 1935, in North Star, OH, to the late Walter & Alma (Davis) Ehlers. He married Rita (Gepfrey) Ehlers on October 28, 1961, at St. Remy’s Catholic Church in Russia.
Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita, and four daughters, Lisa (Steven) Langenkamp of North Star, Angie Rindler of North Star, Julie (Daren) Hartman of Lebanon, and Lois (Omar) Nepomuceno of Avon Lake. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Ryan (Beth) Langenkamp, Derek (Brooke) Langenkamp, Craig (Hannah) Langenkamp, Emily Langenkamp, Zachary Rindler, Lauren Rindler, DeLaney Hartman (Billy Bening), Evan Hartman, Max Nepomuceno, and Ben Nepomuceno; Olivia, Joel, Caleb, Cori, and Kendall Langenkamp. He is a brother to Norma (late Paul) Keiser of Celina, Darlene (Ed) Pohlman of Maria Stein, sister-in-law Joan (David) Miller of Sidney, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Wanda Jean Ehlers and Delores (late Harry) Duncan.
Bob is a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School who then went on to serve our country. He was a veteran of the United States Navy stationed at US Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, California, and also served time at Adak Naval Base in Alaska. Bob was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star. He served many years on the North Star Town and Church Council and was also an active member of the North Star American Legion. Bob was proud and devoted to his community and was actively involved in the development of the North Star Community Park. He was a trained Millwright, committing 40 years to Corning Glass Works in Greenville, OH, where he served a portion of that time as the Union President. Bob had many hobbies and interests which included welding, gardening, and the outdoors. He was an avid outdoors man who had a love for hunting especially with his sons-in-law, grandsons, and friends on the family farm. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather devoted to his family. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities and the frequent family gatherings in his home.
Family and friends may call Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Louis Church in North Star with additional viewing at St. Louis Church from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.
