Rita M. Hoying, age 93, of Celina, Ohio, died Monday, August 3, 2020 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. She was born June 30, 1927 in Carthagena, to the late Henry & Margaret (Hoelscher) Hess. She married Bernard S. Hoying on August 10, 1957, and he died May 2, 2017. She is also survived by three children, Ken & Karen Hoying of Coldwater, Ron & Linda Hoying of Celina, and Sharon & Mark Francis of New Bremen; seven grandchildren: Laura, Adam, Megan, Emily, Megan, Eric, and Craig; five great grandchildren: Ava, Everett, Amelia, Olivia, Adelynn; and in-laws, Marilyn & Dennis Ross of Kettering, Janet Hoying of Sidney, Henrietta Hoying of McCartyville. She was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Urban & Adella Hess, Bertha & Ernest Beckstedt, Monica & Gregor Grevenkamp, Jerome & Eleanor Hess, Victor & Mary Hess, and Arthur & Addy Hess, Delores & Harold Bensman, Wilfred Hoying, Wilbur Hoying, and an infant Norma Hoying.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rita was an avid card player through the years and always had a welcoming smile. She shared her love of baking through her cookies and pies. She was a devoted catholic and a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma, and the Christian Mother’s sodality. She retired from the former Huffy’s plant in Celina.
Due Covid-19 concerns a Mass of Christian Burial with social distancing will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery, Montezuma. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday with no public viewing on Friday before mass at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Memorials contributions may be made to the Maria Stein Shrine. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
