Dr. Richard ("Dick") Lawrence Dobbins, age 81, of St. Marys, passed away on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio. He was born December 12, 1933 in Jackson to the late Lawrence and Alice (Essman) Dobbins. On December 27, 1955 he married Lois Ann Reese (deceased) in Cincinnati. He is survived by four children, Michael & Jane (Ouellette) Dobbins of Lebanon, Indiana, Stephen & Lisa (Collins) Dobbins of Silver Spring, Maryland, Katherine & Larry Crouch of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Antoinette Dobbins of Columbus, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother Alan & sister-in-law Ann Dobbins of Columbus, nieces and nephews and special friends Ilona Zizelman and Craig Meyer of Rockford. He is preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly Ann LaCourse, granddaughter Allyson LaCourse and brother Leonard Dobbins. Richard was a graduate of Saint Charles Preparatory School in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Dayton and then entered medical school at the University of Cincinnati. After his internship in Detroit and his residency in Columbus, he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country as a flight surgeon. After leaving the service, the family moved back to Ohio and settled in Celina and he entered into private practice. He eventually moved his practice to Coldwater where he became a dedicated family practice physician, caring for his patients "from cradle to grave". He was proud to have delivered over 2000 babies. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, serving as a lector and lay distributor. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Celina K of C and the Celina American Legion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday March 2, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. Richard was a kidney recipient and the family requests that memorials be made to Donate Life.org or the American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
