Nelson Thomas Hoelscher age 80 of Newport died on Sunday June 11, 2023. He was born on June 19, 1942 in Ft. Loramie Ohio, the last of 12 children to the late Louis and Henrietta (Hilgefort) Hoelscher. He married Lucy Drees on 05/29/1966 at Sts Peter and Paul Church and she preceded him in death on Jan 28 2000. He is survived by children: Matt and Kathy Hoelscher, Wapakoneta, Ohio, Ann and Doug Grosheim, West Chester, Ohio, Lori and Dan Lawrence, Versailles, Ohio, Amy and Russ Potter, Greenville, Ohio, Tom and Rene (Suchland) Hoelscher, New Bremen Ohio, Grandchildren: Alyssa & Nick Canavan and their son Liam, Seth & Taylor Hoelscher, Wesley Hoelscher & Carrie Frysinger, Chris Coulibaly, Kacie Clover & Nicholas Mayo, Tana & Caleb Hemmelgarn, Cori & John Fischer, Austin Huddleston & Haylee Floyd, Austyn Potter and children Mattix & Joshua Potter, Bethany Potter, and Andrew Potter & Cailtyn Crow, Lucy, Lana & Luke Hoelscher, siblings: Juliana Phlipot, Versailles, Cyril & Marilyn Hoelscher, Ft. Loramie, Doris Hoehne, Ft. Loramie, in-laws: Mary Pepiot, Versailles, Earlene Drees, Ft. Loramie, Becky Fatone, Vandalia, Judy Hoelscher, Ft. Loramie, Frank Hoehne, Sidney. He was preceded in death by a daughter Paula died June 1970, siblings & in-laws: Albert & Lucille Hoelscher, Jerome & Pat Hoelscher, Arnold & Dorothy Hoelscher & his second wife Mary Hoelscher, Harold Phlipot, Armella & Ray Albers, Paul Hoelscher, Nick & Marlene Hoelscher, Urb Hoehne, Marlene Hoehne, Jim Hoelscher, Bill Pepiot, Ben Drees, Charlie Fatone.
Nelson was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was a machinist by trade and started at G&W Tool in Ft Loramie and finished his career in Sidney at Sidney Tool and Die. He loved to work with his hands and loved to mow his lawn. He had enjoyed camping after his wife died and into his retirement. Mostly he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Newport. A burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 3 to 7 PM on Wednesday and from 9 to 10 AM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Children’s Medical Mission www.cmmwest.com and Shelby County Right to Life. Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com.
