Nancy A. Unrast, age 69, of Maria Stein, died on Friday, June 19, 2026, at her home.
She was born February 17, 1957, in Maria Stein, Ohio, to the late Werner & Dolores (Barhorst) Bruggeman. On February 12, 1977, she married Dave Unrast. Nancy & Dave were married for 49 years, and Dave survives at their home in Maria Stein.
Nancy is also survived by four sons and their wives, Todd & Jaianne Unrast of Cassella, Travis & Kelly Unrast of Celina, Jake & Margie Unrast of Cassella, and Josh & Karla Unrast of Chickasaw, as well as 13 grandchildren: Rylee, Colten, Wyatt, KeAndra, Praline, Scarlett, Landon, Bennet, Aria, Avae, Jace, Myra, Emmi, and two great grandchildren, Eleia and Archer. Other surviving family members include her 10 siblings and in-laws: Jerry & Kathy Bruggeman, Caol & Phil Borchers, Annette & Dan Heyne, Marcia Neff, Tony & Linda Bruggeman, Mark Bruggeman, Beverly & Tom Klopfenstein, Julie & Chad Kaiser, Angie & Ed Petty, and Janel & Jeff Selhorst, and Unrast in-laws: Agnes McDonald, Al & Carol Unrast, Dorie & Mike Henry, and Roger Hemmelgarn.
In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Ed & Marietta Unrast, and in-laws: Dave Neff, Bill McDonald, Cathy Hemmelgarn, and Louie Unrast.
Nancy grew up in Maria Stein and graduated from Marion Local High School. She worked as a dental assistant and enjoyed talking with people. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein. Nancy enjoyed cooking and was a devoted Michigan fan and loved being with her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 23, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Chickasaw. Following the funeral mass burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in Maria Stein. Friends and family may call from 2:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, June 22, or from 9:00 – 9:45 AM on Tuesday, June 23, at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. In honoring Nancy's wishes, the family invites everyone to dress casually for the viewing. Those wishing to honor Nancy’s memory may consider doing so by making a memorial contribution to Grand Lake Hospice. Condolences for the family may be expressed in person or online at hogenkampfh.com
