Marjorie M. Freytag

June 10, 1926 — January 16, 2019

Marjorie M. “Marj” Freytag (nee DeLaet) age 92 of 2233 St. Rt. 362, Minster, Ohio, died at 5:52AM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 , at her home in Minster.  She was born June 10, 1926 in Houston, Ohio to the late Raymond & Marie (Dickman) DeLaet. She was a 1944 graduate of Ft. Loramie High School. She married Albert F. Freytag on June 12, 1948 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie. Her husband preceded her in death.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Albert F. Freytag, Jr. and Joseph R. Freytag, and sister Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Freytag.  She is also survived by children Marge & Wayne Jones, Loveland, Ohio, Dr. Thomas R. & Gwynne Freytag, Wapakoneta, William J. & Joyce Freytag, Botkins and Lisa Freytag, Minster, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters-in-law, Ellen Freytag, Sidney and Anne Freytag, Minster. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. She was an integral part of Albert F. Freytag Masonry for more than 40 years, serving as the bookkeeper and administrative guru. Her husband frequently described her as “the brains of the outfit.”  In fact, in recounting his attraction to Marj, Albert said it was her “smarts” that first attracted him. Together they made a great team, weathering many challenges in their nearly 65 years of marriage, always leaning on their faith and the strength of their relationship. In a reflection of her father’s nickname for her, “Greased Lightening,” Marj was always ready to travel, anywhere and everywhere. Her favorite saying was, “Don’t ask me to go somewhere if you don’t mean it because I’ll always say yes!” For many years she and her husband vacationed in Marco Island, Florida where they researched her family history, especially that of her great uncle, Joe Dickman, described as the “hermit of Kice Island.” She and her husband also traveled extensively with a longtime group of friends, touring in Europe, Ireland, the British Isles, Israel, Morocco and Mexico.  Marj and Albert also traveled throughout the United States, frequently stopping at Civil War sites … or the best restaurants!  Coming from a family of great cooks, she was accomplished in the kitchen, delighting in trying new recipes, frequently culled from those restaurant visits.  Her biggest passion was definitely her husband, her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was also a sports nut, avidly following, depending upon the season, the Xavier Musketeers, the Cincinnati Reds, or the Ohio State Buckeyes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday, January 16, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Frankline Rayappa, celebrant. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 18, 2019 and from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
