Marie Lenzmeier Zweber Schmitmeyer

September 15, 1939 — May 22, 2025

Marie Lenzmeier Zweber Schmitmeyer, born September 15, 1939, in Jordan, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.  She was the beloved daughter of Herbert C. Lenzmeier and Eleanor Rose Krautkramer and the youngest of four, growing up with her cherished sisters Ruthie, Elaine, and Helen.

Marie graduated from Shakopee High School in 1957, where she was proudly crowned Homecoming Queen. Following her graduation, she pursued her passion for caregiving and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification from the Rochester School of Vocational Nursing in 1958. She went on to serve others through her nursing work before beginning a new chapter in life.

On October 31, 1959, Marie married David Zweber. Together they had six daughters and one son. They lived in St. Paul, MN, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Southern California, and ultimately settling in Lima, Ohio, in 1976.  Marie was a devoted and active mother who took immense joy in attending her children’s sporting events and being involved in their many activities. She worked for several years at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, continuing her lifelong dedication to helping others.

On July 3, 1987, Marie married Martin Schmitmeyer of Celina, Ohio. She enjoyed helping Marty with his children and farm.  Marie and Marty shared a love for travel, polka dancing, and spending time with their growing blended family.

She is survived by her children: Cindy (Ed Free), Jeff (Sherie), Marijane Selvaggio, Amy (Robert Lundy), Monica (Walt Niemczura), Andrea (Kes Stadler), Christine (Bryon Konvolinka)

Her legacy continues through her 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marie is also survived by her 6 stepchildren: Judy Marchal (Dan), Bernard (Linda), Fred (Sandy), Cindy (Steve Wynk), Tom (Kelly) and Sharon (Dean Moeller) along with her 24 step-grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren and she is preceded in death by Dan Schmitmeyer and one great-grandchild.

Her life was one of service, love, joy and devotion to her Catholic faith.  She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Marie will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous spirit, loving heart and boundless devotion to her family.
