Marian M. Homan

Marian M. (Schmitmeyer) Homan, age 82 of New Bremen, and formerly of St. Rose, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.

She was born on November 6, 1941, in Ft. Loramie to the late Albert & Clara (Henke) Schmitmeyer.  She married Lowell A. Homan on August 22, 1962, in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Ft. Loramie.  Her husband Lowell survives in New Bremen.  Marian is also survived by their six children: Sue & Dave Lennartz of Ft. Recovery, Ken & Brenda (Wolters) Homan of Maria Stein, Ginny & Joe Rutschilling of St. Henry, Shirley & David McMaken of Maria Stein, Mike Homan of New Bremen, and Debra & Glenn Tatman of Lebanon.  Also surviving are 17 grandchildren: Beth & Kevin Geier, Greg & Sarah Lennartz, Doug & Mikayla Lennartz, Kayla Lennartz, Justin & Brittany Homan, Sarah & Mark Post, Abigail Homan, Zachary & Renee Homan, Victoria Homan, and Grace Homan, Kendra & Mark Riesen, Leah Rutschilling & fiancé Matt Marvel, Ryan & Karen McMaken, Brittany & Kevin Schlater, Stephanie & Tyler Meyer, Kennedy Tatman and Cage Tatman, and 29 great-grandchildren.

Surviving siblings and in-laws include John & Rita Schmitmeyer of Coldwater, Leroy Pohl of West Chester, Ted & Connie Schmitmeyer of Versailles, Lester & Jane Schmitmeyer of Ft. Loramie, Fr. James Schmitmeyer of Texas, Wilbert “Bill” Homan of Coldwater, Dennis Mescher of Maria Stein, Alice Wynk of Celina, and Ivo Homan of Cassella.

In addition to her parents Marian is preceded in death by her sister Alberta Pohl, her father and mother in-law Victor & Regina (Hemmelgarn) Homan, an infant great granddaughter Irene Schlater, as well as in-laws Viola Homan, Viola Mescher, Omer Wynk, Norma Homan and infants Mary Ann, Mary Alice, and Joseph Homan.

Marian was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, Ohio, as well as the Ladies Sodality at the church.  She was a 1959 graduate of Ft. Loramie High School and worked at Stolles before starting a family.  She was a homemaker and helped her husband on their dairy farm.  Marian greatly enjoyed genealogy.  Most importantly she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Rose Catholic Church.  Burial in St. Rose Cemetery will follow the funeral mass.  Guests may call on Monday, January 22, from 2-8pm or on Tuesday, from 9-10 am at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.  Condolences for the family may be expressed at hogenkampfh.com
