On December 15, 2021, Margaret L. Luthman, age 91, joined the heavenly choir of Saints, singing praises and Worshipping her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Margaret was born in Shelby County on August 21, 1930 to the late Henry & Delphine (Alexander) Schmidt. She attended Holy Angels Schools and then worked at Murphy’s Department Store until she met and was courted by Si Luthman in 1947. They married on April 14, 1948, boasting of 68 years together until Si passed in May, 2016.
Surviving to celebrate her life are children Ron (Joyce Cunningham) of Kenosha, WI; Kathy Morris of Mount Sterling, OH; Paul (Bev) Luthman, Anna, OH; Gary (Deb) Luthman, Troy, OH; Susan (David) Stieg of Reno, NV; Diane Iiams, Anna, OH; Harold (Brenda) Luthman, Sidney, OH; and Carol Luthman of Sidney, OH. Their second child, Roger, predeceased them at a young age. She was a proud and loving Grandmother to 17 grandchildren (Adam, Mandy and Kyle Luthman, Bethany Morris Buckner, April Morris Massie, Linda Kay Morris Lacey and Joe Morris, Kelly Luthman Schmiesing, Stacy Luthman Hocker, Josh and Jeff Luthman, Nathan Stieg, Chad Supinger, Tiffany Iiams-Estes, Andy and Caleb Luthman, Brendan Fries) and 30 Great Grandchildren, along with many loved nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by 3 sisters-in-law, JoAnn Schmidt of Bradford, OH, Patricia Luthman of Sidney, OH and Agnes Luthman of Botkins, OH.
Margaret was the youngest of 10 children, predeceased by brothers Melvin (Beth Ellen), Raymond (Lucy), Lester (Rita), Val (Mary) and Sebastian “Shorty” Schmidt, sisters Edwina “Eddie” (Burb) Chappie, Agnes “Aggie” (Don) Heintz, Rachel Schmidt, Irene (Joe) Stevenson, brothers-in-law Vernon, Vince (Betty), Orville, Melvin and Merlin Luthman and sisters-in-law Gloria Luthman and Rosalie (Ralph) Hempfling.
Margaret was a committed farmer’s wife, managing any chore to help Si. She was a wholehearted homemaker and devoted caregiver. She had a warmth that made her home welcoming and hospitable. When out and about she knew no stranger, treating others with dignity and respect. She was a great listener. In her younger years Margaret liked to travel with various family members and friends, having gone to numerous states including Hawaii and Alaska. In her later years she desired for others to travel to HER, welcoming all with much joy. Her desire was to be with family/friends. She was all about family.
Margaret faithfully prayed for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, children everywhere, clergy, her community and government officials. She diligently supported Christian missions and pro-life organizations, and in her spare time she made hats for Agape Ministry. But her all-time favorite activities in later years were going to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, praying the Rosary (often with Carol) and attending Mass. She humbled herself before God, was ever so thankful for God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and lived her faith by always forgiving others. We pray that she influenced each and every one of us to believe in the same Lord of her life.
