Louis (Louie) Henry Hoying, aged 68 of Minster, Ohio, died unexpectedly 24 October 2026. Louie, born October 1, 1958, was a lifelong resident of Minster. He graduated from Minster High School in 1977, attended Saint Joseph’s College, and graduated from Wilmington College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. At Wilmington he was a member of the Gamma Phi Gamma Fraternity and worked as a DJ for school dances. Soon after graduation he took a job with Mercer Color, Coldwater, Ohio, where he worked for many years. Louis was the son of the late Louis A. and Rita M.H. (Fortman) Hoying. He is survived by two brothers and four sisters and their families. Surviving Louis are Fr. David Hoying, CPPS, of Carthagena OH; Ruth and James Fullenkamp of Minster OH, with Rachael and Richard Faircloth with Adele, C.H. (deceased) and Charles; Dr. Louis and Alexandra Fullenkamp; and Jack and Dr. Megan Fullenkamp with Layla and Evie; Therese and Steve Fledderjohn of West Chester OH, with Joshua and Alana Fledderjohn with Calvin and Dominic; Alex Fledderjohn; and Alyssa and Christopher Wade with Ezekiel, Cecilia, Bellamy, Reverie, and Maxwell; Theodore Hoying of Minster OH; Regine and W. Forst Elliott of Kettering OH, with Margaret and Michael Siroky, Caroline, Rebecca, and William; and Margaret and Michael Delaney of Euclid OH, with Grace and Liam. Louie was a loving and devoted Uncle to his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who treasured him dearly. Louie was a kind and generous person who willingly and enthusiastically shared with others his knowledge and expertise of his varied interests and collections. He was a mentor to many. Louie was the master gardener of a quarter acre garden, especially of tomatoes and onions, and shared fruits and vegetables generously with his family, his friends and his neighborhood. He canned his produce, was a baker of pies and cookies, made tasty chili, and hunted wild mushrooms. Since childhood Louie enjoyed raising and showing fancy poultry. You could say Louie was a homesteader before homesteading was trending. Ever a fisherman, Louie was a member of the Lake Loramie Improvement Association. He tied his own flies, was skilled at wrapping fly rods, advised others about the best fishing holes, and shared many great times with his fishing buddies. Louie was a scholar of nature. He was a passionate bird watcher and reported his daily sightings to eBird (the Cornell Lab of Ornithology) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He was quite knowledgeable about butterflies, was a storm watcher and an astronomer. As a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, he loved hunting for arrowheads and Indian stones. Louie’s love of music and collection of Edison phonograph cylinder records provided entertainment to many listeners and a glimpse of life on the old farm. For over forty years he helped his parents with the “Walk Through History” display at the Minster Oktoberfest. He had an artist’s flare and enjoyed painting and woodworking. Louie appreciated sports and coached Saint Augustine Church Girls CYO basketball teams. He followed the Cincinnati Reds and the University of Dayton and undeniably, Louie was a dyed-in-the-wool University of Notre Dame football fan. He worked hard, possessed a sense of humor, and enjoyed life. Louis was a member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Funeral Mass will be 10 :00 AM on Monday November 2, 2026, with internment to follow in Saint Augustine Cemetery, Minster.
