Loretta M Leugers Rempe age 100 of Minster, Ohio died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Elmwood Assisted Living, New Bremen. She was born July 23, 1920 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to the late James & Johanna (Murphy) Glynn. Her father always said one day his family would be US Citizens. In 1925 he had enough money put aside for a ticket on a ship sailing for Boston, MA. He left and worked and saved enough money to send for his wife and three daughters. The family arrived in Boston in July of 1926. He continued his dream of US Citizenship and had his first papers and was waiting for his second papers when he was killed in accident at work on August 6, 1929. His wife, Johanna continued his dream and went to night classes at a local high school. When she completed her courses and passed her citizenship test in 1932 the whole family became citizens. In 1944 Loretta me a young sailor Herb Leugers who was stationed in Boston Navy yard. In his free time, he would ride the subway and buses to keep dates with Loretta. They were married on June 1, 1946. He was offered a job at Minster Machine Co. and moved to Minster, Ohio. They had 4 sons James and his wife Karen who live in Minster, Bernard who was killed in a car accident in 1967, Kenneth who died of cancer in 2019, Herb, Jr. was killed in a car accident in 1981. Her husband Herb succumbed to cancer in 1987. She married Robert Rempe on September 1, 1989 and he died in 2007. She is also survived by daughters-in-law: Virginia Drinnen, Celina, Roberta Gehle, Celina, Linda Rempe, New Bremen, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Glynn, North Attleboro, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, both husbands, 3 sons, daughter-in-law Jane Leugers, grandsons Jason Krieg, Jeff Platt, siblings: James Glynn, Mary & Patrick Coughlan, Doretha & Manuel Costa, Elizabeth Glynn, step children Don Gehle, Robert Rempe, Jr. & Warren Rempe. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster and the Minster Eagles F.O.E. #1391. She worked at the Harvard University Print Shop, Sherman Pharmacy and Globus Printing. She hobbies included reading, crocheting, and sewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, May 3, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Minster. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday, May 2, 2021 and from 9 to 9:30 AM on Monday.
