Linus J. Monnin age 84 of Russia, Ohio died on December 9, 2016 at Brookdale Nursing Center, Troy, Ohio. He was born on February 23, 1932 in Russia, Ohio to the late Clarence & Anna (Dapore) Monnin. He married Rita Knapke on July 27, 1957 in Versailles, Ohio. She survives in Russia. He is also survived by children: Sharon & Jeffrey Wampler, Tipp City, Doug & Karen Monnin, Troy, Della & Chris Steinke, Tipp City, Jack Monnin, Troy, Rena & Philip Miller, Tipp City, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister, Norma & Ronald Bensman, Minster, in-laws Doris Monnin, Versailles, Bill Mann, Florida, Mark & Elaine Knapke, Kalida, Jerry & Joan Knapke, Hamler, Ohio, Vi & Bob Bangasser, Freeport, IL, John & Eileen Ehlers, Leipsic, OH & Pat Knapke, Versailles. He was preceded in death by brother & sisters: Evelyn Monnin C.PP.S., Carl Monnin, Kathleen & Melvin “Bud” Heuing, Elizabeth Mann, in-law Paul Knapke. He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, where he served as an usher, helped build the Grotto by the church and serviced the church bells. He was also a member of the Russia K of C for 25 years, the Russia Fire Department and was a chicken fryer for the Russia Picnic and Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a member of the Russia CWV. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, Ohio with Rev. Martin Fox celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Remy Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 12, and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 13.
