Leonard H. Otte, age 94, of Cassella, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at The Gardens at St. Henry. He was born November 20, 1923 in Cassella, to the late August & Veronica (Langenkamp) Otte. On July 30, 1949, in Cassella, he married Loretta (Mescher) Otte and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2002. He is survived by his children: Donald & Sandra Otte of Gainesboro, TN, Thomas Otte of Osgood, August & Denise Otte of Covington, Kathleen & Timothy Landess of Centerville, Richard Otte of Cassella, and Charlene & Stephen Abel of McCordsville, IN.
Leonard is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and sisters, Dorothy Gaerke of Ft. Recovery, and Irene & Jerry Reinhard of Ft. Recovery, and in-laws: Lenore Otte of Coldwater, Carolyn Mescher of Rossburg, Alfred & Jan Mescher of Troy, Joseph & Betty Mescher of Versailles, Alfreda & Glenn Anderson of Texas.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Roberta Otte, a daughter in law, Christine Otte, and siblings Hilda & Frank Stammen, Lauretta & Lawrence Meyer, Marie & Aloys Unrast, Alvina & Richard Kunk, Urban Otte, Louis & Irene Otte, Bernadine & Ed Stammen, Alma & Jerry Fullenkamp, and Albert Otte, and in laws: Barney Gaerke, Vince & Ollie Mescher, Norbert Mescher, Wilbert & Carolyn Mescher, Richard Mescher, Linus Mescher, Mary Ann Mescher, Norma & Ivo Brackman, Rita & Elmer Siefring
Leonard was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Cassella, and the Knights of St. John in Maria Stein. He was a lifelong farmer and was a former member of the Farm Bureau. Leonard was a T.V. and radio repair man for many years. Leonard was also proud that his family farm was recognized for the Catholic Century Farm Award.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 21, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Cassella. Burial will follow in the Cassella Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday, and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
