Rev. Leo A. Hoying, age 80 of St. Charles Center in Carthagena, pass away Sunday May 22, 2011 at the St. Charles Center. He was born in St. Patrick, OH on July 10, 1930 and was the fifth child of William & Regina (Bernard) Hoying. He attended St. Patrick Grade School, St. Gregory Seminary, Mount St. Marys Seminary and Xavier University. He was ordained May 26, 1956 by Archbishop Karl J. Alter and celebrated his first mass at St. Patricks Church, St. Patrick, Ohio.

His first assignment was an associate pastor at St. Peter & Paul, Norwood Ohio, from 1956-1961; St. Saviour Rossmoyne, Cincinnati, Ohio 1961-1964, St. Catherine, Cincinnati and also served as counselor at La Salle High School, Cincinnati 1964-1968; and Holy Rosary, St. Marys form 1968-1972. In 1972 he was named associate pastor at St. Raphaels, Springfield and pastor from 1974-1977. In 1977 he became pastor at Holy Rosary, St. Marys until 1989 and oversaw the construction of the new church; and pastor at St. Remy, Russia from 1989-1994; pastor at St. Denis, Versailles and Holy Family, Frenchtown from 1994 until his retirement in 2001. In retirement Fr. Hoying assisted at parishes surrounding Minster, where he established residence. He was a former member of the St. Marys Rotary Club and St. Marys Knights of Columbus, #1592.

Fr. Hoying is survived by his brother Alvin & Joan Hoying, New Bremen, sisters Catherine & James Abele, Kettering, Veronica Presas, Ft. Loramie, Margie Thieman, Kettering, Susan & Les Prenger, Minster, sister-in-laws Betty Hoying, Dayton, Patricia & Rolland Griner, Ft. Loramie, and Bonnie Hoying, West Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence (C.J.), Edward and Cyril (Cy) and his sister Rosemary Soalman, brothers-in-law Roman Soalman, Paul Perin and Art Presas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM May 26, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster with Archbishop Rev. Daniel E. Pilarczyk celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 2-8 PM Wednesday, May 25, and 9 -10 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Condolences may be made at www.hogenkampfh.com .
