KNOSTMAN, LAVON L. “ARCH” age 85, of Clayton, OH passed away peacefully away Tuesday morning, March 8, 2016 at home, after prolonged illness and under the care of his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Kate. He was born March 22, 1930 to the late Oscar “Ike” and Bernice Knostman, in Minster, OH. He was his high school class president and graduate of Seton Hall University. He proudly served in the Army Engineer Corps, 1 st Lt., during the Korean War. Dad loved to play and watch basketball and baseball which earned him his childhood nickname “Archie” and extending that passion by coaching little league for almost 25 years. He was a volunteer firefighter/EMT and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, council #3754. Arch was a longtime member and usher at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. He was a lifelong enthusiast of card play, from pinochle to poker to bridge.
Arch is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Kate; 5 sons; Keith, Brian( Melody), Lee (Bambi), Drew, Steve (Maureen); 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister Janet Boeke; nephews Bob (Diane) and Rick Boeke and many cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30AM Saturday March 12, 2016 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church 5401 N. Main ST. Dayton OH 45415. Inturnment at Calvary Cemetery following. The family will receive visitors 5:30-7:30PM Friday March 11, 2016 at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. Dayton OH 45415. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Hospice of Miami Valley in Arch’s memory.
