Lavern J. Wolters, age 89, of Coldwater, Ohio died Monday, February 15, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton due to a stroke. He was born July 2, 1931 in Coldwater to the late Richard & Mathilda (Will) Wolters. On August 29, 1953 he married Alfrieda A. (Schoenlein) in St. Rose, Ohio and she died November 8, 2008. Lavern has 8 children, 31 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren with one on the way: children Joyce DeStefano of Ft. Wayne, IN, Diane & Joe Siegrist of Union City, IN, Shirley & Kevin Fullenkamp of St. Henry, Steve & Deb Wolters of Celina, Jane Jones of St. Henry, Donna & Larry Lane of New Bremen, Brenda & Ken Homan of Maria Stein, Lynn & Ron Broering of New Weston; 31 grandchildren, Sam DeStefano, Gail & Joe Dues, Jill & Jeremy Geisendorff, Eric & Jani Siegrist, Beth & Will Handt, Kyle & Jill Siegrist, Alex & Peyton Fullenkamp, Gwen Fullenkamp, Claire Fullenkamp, Dan & Kendra Wolters, Jenni & Brian Erhart, Gary & Melissa Wolters, Adam & Whitney Wolters, Ryan Jones, Austin & Kendra Jones, Hannah Lane, Tess Lane, Zoe Lane (dec.), Justin Homan, Sarah & Mark Post, Abigail Homan, Zachary Homan, Victoria Homan, Grace Homan, Pam & Rick Thimmes, Nathan Broering (dec.), Rachel Broering, Cody Broering, Cory Broering, Jesse Broering, Jacob Broering. Lavern was the last surviving member of his family. He is preceded in death by siblings and in-laws: Mildred & Jerome Selhorst, Lucille, Rudy & Mary Link, Dolores & Ludwig Wuebker, Albert & Victoria Schoenlein, Bernard & Ruth Schoenlein, Herman Schoenlein, Roman & Rita Schoenlein, Mary & Vernon Rutschilling and Esther & Walter Rethman. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Men’s society of the church, Coldwater Knights of Columbus. Lavern was a lifelong Farmer and lived a full life filled with Faith and Family.
A Funeral Mass following all CDC guidelines will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater with live stream at https://www.coldwatercluster.org/information/watch-mass-online. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater where CDC guidelines of mask wearing, and social distancing will be followed. Memorials may be made to Center for Neurological Development and the Cancer Association of Mercer County
