Joyce M. Bruns, age 60, of St. Henry, died Friday, August 24, 2018 at her home. She was born May 3, 1958 in Coldwater, to the late Victor Henry & Mary Ann (Reigelsperger) Schmackers. On May 19, 1979 she married David R. Bruns and he survives in St. Henry. She is survived by her daughters, Julie & Jon J. Woehrmyer of Minster, Lisa & Douglas Koesters of St. Henry, Angela & Neil Schmitz of St. Henry, Lori & Kristopher Moorman of Dublin, Janel & Mitchell Niekamp of Hilliard and Michelle & Jason Guggenbiller of St. Henry; 14 grandchildren: Avery, Brock & Zachary Woehrmyer, Clayton, William & Olive Koesters, Emma, Addison, Bennett & Brooks Schmitz, Charles, Amelia & Ruby Moorman, Brynn Niekamp, and two grandchildren on the way; siblings and in-laws, Rich & Martha Schmackers of St. Henry, Elaine & Gene Grube of Ft. Recovery, Janice & Jerry Buschur of St. Henry, Nancy & Denny Muhlenkamp of Montezuma, Roger & Angie Schmackers of Ft. Recovery, Susan Schmackers of Carthagena, Jane & Charles Hileman of Celina, Shirley & Roger Schlater of Versailles, Stan & Mary Lou Bruns of Maria Stein, Linda & Doug Watercutter of St. Henry and Louis Jr. & Cathy Bruns of Maria Stein. Joyce is preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Gary Schmackers, Dale Schmackers, Louis & Mary Evelyn Bruns and Joseph Bruns.
She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Rosary Sodality, the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Henry American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a communion distributor to the sick. She graduated from St. Henry High School in 1976, and worked as a pharmacy technician at Schwieterman’s Pharmacy. Joyce was a loving wife, wonderful mother of six daughters and a proud grandmother. She was a faith-filled woman who did not know a stranger. Joyce had a gentle heart and a contagious laugh. She enjoyed biking and walking outdoors, gardening, baking and spoiling her grandchildren. Joyce was devoted to her family, church and community. She lived a vibrant and selfless life. She showed courage and grace as she battled lung cancer for nearly a year.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at St. Henry Church. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry from 2 to 8 PM on Monday and 9 to 10 am on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to State of the Heart Care.
