Josephine Mary Bruns age 89 formerly of 200 York Street, Yorkshire, Ohio, died Monday February 7, 2011 in Newark, OH. She was born on the farm on Reed Road outside of Yorkshire March 26, 1921 to Anton and Sophia Holscher Wenning. She married Harold J. Bruns on June 25, 1947 at St. Nicholas Church, Osgood, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1973. She is survived by children: M. Joanne (Ron) Sherwood, Granville, Ohio, Susan K. (Thomas) Moffitt, Hamilton, Ohio, Margaret A. Peg Seng, Bladensburg, Ohio, Sharon E. (Joseph) Henry, Versailles, Ohio, Nicholas J. (Jane) Bruns, Hickory Corners, Michigan,10 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren, Brothers & sisters: Theresa K. Alexander, Russia, Ohio, Cletus F. (Lois) Wenning, Osgood, Ohio, Leo A. (Marguerite) Wenning, Yorkshire, Ohio, brother-in-law Hugo (Betty)Schlarman, Osgood, Ohio and sister-in-law Francis Wenning. She was preceded in death by brothers & sisters Henry J. Wenning, Martha B. Wenning, Rita & Leo Bollheimer, Elizabeth Schlarman, brother-in-law Firmin Alexander. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, Ohio. She graduated from Versailles High School in 1939, graduated valedictorian with RN license from St. Elizabeths Hospital School of Nursing, Dayton in 1942, also graduated with BS in Nursing Education from Catholic University of America, 1945. She cared for polio patients in Washington, D.C. and also obtained education credits from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio for elementary education certificate. She taught nursing at St. Elizabeths Hospital School of Nursing, worked at Sidney Memorial Hospital in nursing, taught fourth grade at St. Denis Catholic School in Versailles, taught eighth grade science, health and was School nurse at Versailles Exempted Village Schools, worked for Darke County Health Department teaching health classes for the public and day care providers, coordinator for immunization clinic, newborn home visits, blood pressure screening, mass flu immunization clinics. She was inducted into Senior Citizen Hall of Fame - May, 1995. She was a leader and founder of the Patterson Patchers 4-H Club, volunteer and founding member of Osgood Life Squad, former president and member of American Legion Post 588 Ladies Auxiliary, former president and member of St. Nicholas Church Ladies Sodality. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, OH with Rev. David Zink Celebrant. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 4:00PM till 7:00 PM Thursday and form 9 to 10 AM on Friday. Burial will be in St. Martin Cemetery, Osgood, OH.
