Joann Kunkler

August 6, 1942 — April 3, 2023

JoAnn Kunkler, age 80, of St. Henry, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

She was born August 6, 1942, in Celina, to the late Herbert & Velma (Prenger) Bergman.  On August 19, 1961, she married Donald Kunkler.  Donald and JoAnn raised their family and enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage until Don’s passing on December 19, 2000.

JoAnn is survived by her 14 children and their spouses: Andrew & Kelly Kunkler, Kenneth & Sandy Kunkler, both of St. Henry, Charles & Carol Kunkler of Ft. Loramie, Elaine & Jeffrey Muhlenkamp, Christopher & Debra Kunkler, both of St. Henry, Susan & Doug Niekamp of North Star, Sarah & Douglas Franck, Judith & Shannon Grieshop,  Nancy & Timothy Mescher, Cherie & Chris Puthoff, Barbara & Andrew Gast, Donna & Chris Rindler, and Steven Kunkler all of St. Henry, and Thomas & Brittany Kunkler of Columbus.  Also surviving JoAnn are 49 grandchildren, one on the way, 12 great grandchildren, one on the way, as well as siblings and in-laws: Thomas Bergman of Beaumont, TX, Dorothy Wilker of Dayton, Mildred & John Heitkamp of Tipp City, Michelle & Gary Paulus of Vandalia, Ted & Sarah Bergman of Maria Stein, Theresa Bergman of Richland, Washington, Janet & Kris Darr of St. Marys, Jon & Julie Bergman of Maria Stein, Dorothy Schott of Ft. Wayne, Henry & Ruth Kunkler of Burkettsville, and Virginia Heitkamp of Coldwater.

In addition to her parents and husband, JoAnn is preceded in death by a grandson, Nick Franck, as well as siblings and in-laws: Jean Bergman, Don Wilker, Rosemary Olsen, Ted & Martha Kunkler, Fred & Evelyn Kunkler, Ralph Kunkler, Stella & Herb Siefring, Florian Heitkamp, and Robert Schott, and her father and mother-in-law Henry & Theresia Kunkler.

JoAnn was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Carthagena, and the St. Monica Ladies Sodality at the church.  She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, The Heritage Club, and the Coldwater Eagles.  She was also a volunteer at Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.  Burial will follow the services in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 2:00pm – 8:00pm on Monday, April 10, and from 9:00am – 10:00am on Tuesday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Mercer County Right to Life or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Condolences for the family may be expressed at hogenkampfh.com
