James R. Maurer

James R. Maurer, age 77, of 79 S. Main St., Ft. Loramie, Ohio died at 10:30 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Columbus, OH after a brief illness.  He was born on June 8, 1939 in Ft. Loramie to the late Edison and Bertha (Larger) Maurer.  He married Madeline C. Albers on October 28, 1961 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie. She preceded him in death. He is survived by six children: Jeff & Julia Maurer, Troy, Vicki & Moe Quinter, Ft. Loramie, James P. & Linda Maurer, Ft. Loramie, Bill & Kathy Maurer, Ft. Loramie, Jenni & Mark Wilt, Ft. Loramie, and Ed Maurer, Ft. Loramie, 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Paul (Joan) Maurer, Fort Loramie, Doris Jean (Matt) Zimmerman, Fort Loramie, John (Sandy) Maurer, Arlington, Texas, Mary Angela (Corey) Siddall, Covington, KY, and Tom (Kathy) Maurer, Fort Loramie, OH. He is also survived by in-laws John “Bucky” (Judy) Albers, Centerville, Patty (Doug) Lockard, Huber Heights, and Paul (Sandy) Albers, Minster.   He was a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie.  James worked in road construction his entire life. He began working for his Father at Frantz Bros. Construction Co. when he was a teenager. He also worked for Miller Valentine, then Urbana Tar and Asphalt before starting his own business TdM Construction Company. After retirement, he volunteered many hours at the church. He donated numerous hours helping with construction and maintenance of the Fort Loramie football facilities.

He was a member of the Fort Loramie Community Service Club (formerly Kiwanis), Sons of the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. James took great pleasure in having his family close to him. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a compassionate and charitable man, often helping those in need, and he enjoyed socializing with his friends, and never met a stranger. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Shoup celebrant.  Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 2 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday, January 11 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 12.  Burial will take place in St. Michael Cemetery. In leiu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Madeline Maurer Scholarship Fund or the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad. Condolences may be made at www.hogenkampfh.com.
