Herbert "Herb" J. Boerger age 100 of McCartyville, passed away at 5:50 AM on November 2, 2012 at Elmwood of New Bremen. He was born on June 5, 1912 in Ft. Loramie to the late Frank & Emma (Ernst) Boerger. On February 4, 1941 he married Alma Schmiesing in Minster. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2001. He is survived by children Carol & John Bucklew, Dayton, Velma Matuszewski, Columbus, Grace & Bob Burke, North Fort Myers, FL, Michael & Patricia Boerger, Sidney, Denise & Kevin Greve, Evergreen, CO, 12 grandchildren, Bryan Bucklew, Monica Bucklew Sowders, Mark Matuszewski, Christa, Lisa and Erika Swigart, Jacquilyn Boerger Barhorst, Duane & Neil Boerger, Tristan, Alec & Kinsey Greve, 15 great grandchildren, brother & sisters, Ralph Boerger, New Bremen, Clarissa "Chris" Thieman, Minster, Mary Francis, Russia, Ruth Dabbelt, New Bremen, sisters-in-law, Virginia Boerger, Minster, Irene Boerger Ft. Loramie, brothers-in-law John & Harvey Schmiesing and sister-in-law Neoma Hoying. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son-in-law Joe Matuszewski, brothers Leo, Alfred, Clarence, Bob & Frank Boerger, sisters Alma Feldman, Dorothy Wolf, Catherine Boerger & Juliana Wagner. Together Herb & Alma farmed for 37 years. After retiring from farming, Herb became an avid bowler, bowling twice a week until the 98 ½ years of age and at age 95 he bowled a 300 game. He spent many hours visiting relatives and friends in nursing homes, loved doing all types of puzzles and took great pride in his garden. Herb played baseball for Ft. Loramie Athletics who won the Western Ohio League Championship in 1932 and never lost his passion for the game and his favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds. He was member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville and to the Knights of Columbus Council. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Friday, November 9, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville with Rev. John Tonkin celebrant and Deacon John Schmiesing assisting. Friends may call at the SACRED HEART OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, McCartyville from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, Nov. 8 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Friday, Nov. 9.
