Helen Doris Urwin, age 86, of Cincinnati, Ohio (formerly of Coldwater, Ohio) passed away of natural causes in the company of her family at Vitas Hospice in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 15, 2013. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arthur Urwin in 2002 and by her brothers Lloyd and Gordon Rasmussen and sisters Violet Conquergood and Margaret Rasmussen and a brother in law Jerome Stromsmoe. Helen is survived by her sons Anthony (Susan) Urwin and Timothy (Rosalind Manifold) Urwin of Cincinnati, Ohio, by daughters Nancy (Roberto Camara) Urwin de Camara of San Antonio, Texas, Ann Urwin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Sally Urwin of Oak Park, Illinois. Helen is also survived by brothers Walter (Mary Rose) and Richard (Marion) Rasmussen of Canada and sisters Ruth (Gordon) Evans of Canada, Gladys Stromsmoe of Canada and Carole (George) Hendrickson of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Helen was born in Orion, Alberta (Canada) on April 18, 1927 and was the eldest daughter of 10 children born to Richard and Minda (Bakstad) Rasmussen. Helen was raised on the family farm and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse until moving to Medicine Hat, Alberta to attend high school, while working to provide her own room and board. In 1951, Helen married the late Arthur Urwin after which the couple immigrated to the United States and settled in Charles City, Iowa where they became naturalized citizens and raised 5 children. Before her retirement in Coldwater, Ohio, Helen had worked many years as a secretary in Edina, Minnesota and as a bank officer in Grayslake, Illinois. Helen was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Coldwater, Ohio in recent years and of the United Protestant Church of Grayslake, Illinois in prior years. Helen is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a loving friend to many. She enjoyed the last years of her life at the Evergreen Retirement Community of Cincinnati where she volunteered her time, enjoyed cards and activities with friends, and became an avid Reds baseball fan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Coldwater United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Gordon officiating. A viewing will be held at held at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater Ohio from 5 to 7 pm on Friday and 9 to 10 am on Saturday. Helen will be laid to rest at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina, Ohio. Memorials may be sent to the Coldwater United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
