Helen Hazel (Swink) Smith, age 100, of 1011 Kensington Ln. in Celina, passed away at 4:00p.m. on Monday September 26, 2011, at the Miller House in Celina. She was born on Feb. 16, 1911 in Wapakoneta, Ohio to the late Harry & Mary (Varner) Swink. On Aug. 25, 1933 she married Gerald William Smith, who died in 1982. Survivors include her daughter Marilyn Sue Locke of Mansfield, 2 grandchildren Kyle & Kelly Coe of Findlay, Kami & Jerry Minor of Rockford, IL., 4 great grandchildren Kira Coe, Kaleb Coe both of Findlay, Garald Cress of Cridersville, Jimi Bennett Rockford, IL. Helen was preceded in death by her sons Gerald Wayne Smith, John William Smith, son-in-law Edward Locke, brothers Claude Swink, John Swink, Roy Swink, Arthur & Jean Swink and sisters Carol Swink, Martha & Ercil Hengstler. Helen graduated from Bloom High School in Wapakoneta. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina for over 75 years. At the Church she was involved with the Wesley Class, Martha Circle and active with the United Methodist Women. She was very active with the Eastern Star Chapter #91 of Celina. Helen was a Past Worthy Matron, Past Grand Representative to Utah and Amaranth of O.E.S. #91 of Celina. She was a member of the Celina American Legion Post #210 Auxiliary, the Shakespeare Club of Celina, Ars Nova Club, Mercer 8 & 40 # 828, Mercer County Historical Society, Mercer County Sportsman Association, and a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Lima. She was a volunteer with the Community Health Professionals of Celina. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday Sept. 30, 2011 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina, with Rev. Matt Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 &6-8p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina and one hour before services at the Church on Friday. Eastern Star Services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Condolences may be made at LHDfuneralhome.com.
