Eugene V. (Gene) Homan, age 75, of Coldwater, died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at his home. He was born October 13, 1938 in St. Peter, Ohio to the late Raymond T. & Leonore (Thien). He married Norma Jean (Thomas) on October 19, 1957 and she survives in Coldwater. He is survived by five daughters, Deborah (Don) Glaser of St. Marys, Diane (Kevin) Bornhorst of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jeanine (James) Steinbrunner of Midland, Michigan, Laura Bruns of Coldwater and Karen (Carl) Bergman of Coldwater, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Evelyn Hale of Celina and Doris (Jerry) Will of Celina, step brothers Don Schwartz of Botkins, Jerry (Mary Jane) Schwartz of Ft. Loramie, David (Loraine) Schwartz of Coldwater and Mike (Vickie) Schwartz of Minster, a step sister Mary Lou (Bruce) Guy of Dayton, brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Martha) Thomas of Bucyrus and Ralph James of Ohio City and a foreign exchange daughter, Femke VanWyngaarden of Amsterdam. He was also preceded in death by his step mother Vera (Schwartz) Homan, infant brothers Dennis & Donald, mother-in-law Florentine Thomas and in-laws David Hale, Carol James and Mary Schwartz. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, where he was a member of the first group of CCD lay teachers, and Coldwater Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime, 12 gallon, blood donor, a hospital volunteer and a former Boy Scout Leader. Gene loved being outdoors, gardening, bird watching and cooking. He was also an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. He retired from the foundry at the former New Idea Plant in Coldwater and delivered for Schwieterman's Pharmacy in his retirement. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Gene donated his body to the Boonshoft Medical School in Dayton, so burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater at a later date. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater and the family will greet friends after 9:30 am Monday at Holy Trinity Church.
