Elmer L. Homan, age 88, of Chickasaw passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at The Gardens at St. Henry. He was born on March 28, 1938, in Chickasaw, Ohio to the late Edward & Justina (Steinlage) Homan. On April 15, 1961, he married Elsie (Poeppelman) Homan. Elmer and Elsie were married for 65 years, and Elsie survives at their home near Chickasaw.
Elmer is also survived by six children and their spouses, Linda & Jacob Buschur of North Star, Elaine & Neal Siefring of New Weston, Karen & Nick Siefring of Burkettsville, Dean & Lynn Homan of Maria Stein, Tricia & Steve Barlage of Chickasaw, and Jeff & Renee Homan of St. Sebastian. His extended family includes 31 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, as well as in-laws: Virginia Poeppelman of Yorkshire, Ruth Brown of Wapakoneta, Janice & Don Marchal of Versailles, Jim Poeppelman of Versailles, Joe & Margie Poeppelman of Vandalia, and Mary & Gary Dean of Troy.
In addition to his parents, Elmer is preceded in death by a son Robert Homan, a granddaughter Renee Bergman, a sister and her husband, Delores & Neal Wolters, his father and mother-in-law, Aloys & Helen Poeppelman, and in-laws: Ernest Poeppelman, Arlene & Henry Fortkamp, Paul Brown, and Kay Poeppelman.
Elmer was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, and the St. Sebastian Men’s Sodality. He was a lifelong farmer and loved what he did. He served his country in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Chickasaw VFW. Elmer enjoyed tinkering with projects and fixing things around the farm, as well as driving his truck to survey the area fields and crops.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in St. Sebastian. Following the funeral mass, burial with military honors will take place in St. Sebastian Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26, and from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM on Wednesday, May 27, at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. Those wishing to honor Elmer’s life may consider doing so by donating to EverHeart Hospice or to St. Sebastian Church.
