Douglas E. Hassan, age 63 of Celina, passed away at 12:11p.m. on Monday Sept. 8, 2014 at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys after an extended Illness. He was born on Jan 13, 1951 in Coldwater, Ohio to the late Lowell E. & Pauline (Axe) Hassan. Survivors include his sisters Donna & Ralph Gardner of Hamilton, Debra Abels & Dan Stammen of Celina, Diana & John Ferguson of Grove City, Darcy Homan of Celina. He had eleven nieces & nephews and 19 grand nieces & nephews. He graduated from the Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus in 1970. He furthered his education in New York, where he earned a certification in Piano Tuning. In 1970 He participated in a bicycle tour across the United States with Taylor University. He spent most of his life in Columbus, Ohio but returned to Celina in 2001 where he worked for Bella's Italian Grill. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina. He will be remembered as an amazing blind man who loved Life. He had a deep passion for music, having performed locally for many years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m. on Thursday Sept. 11, 2014 at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Swamp College Cemetery in Celina. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday September 10, 2014 and one hour before services on Thursday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio. Condolences may be left at LHDfuneralhome.com.
