Donald Joseph Hemmelgarn age 87, of Minster passed away the morning of Sunday, September 28, 2025 at his home. He was born in New Weston, Ohio on January 13, 1938 to the late Mark & Hilda (Gerling) Hemmelgarn. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon Hemmelgarn (Smith). They were married on February 23, 1957 at St. Denis Church in Versailles. He is also survived by his children: Don & Nancy Hemmelgarn, Loveland OH, Bruce & Jen Hemmelgarn, Milford OH, Bob & Lisa Hemmelgarn, Mason OH, Dianne & Doug Buckminster, New York NY, and Leanne & Ron Keller, Minster, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brother Jerry & Marilyn Hemmelgarn, Lebanon TN, brother Harold & Susie Hemmelgarn, New Bremen, sister Vera & Jim Stafford, Southern Pines NC, brother Tom & Marleen Hemmelgarn, Russia, sister Lou and Scott Ireland, Boca Raton FL, brother Dan & Melinda Hemmelgarn, Jefferson City MO. He graduated from Versailles High School in 1956 and Sinclair College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1961. He had an accomplished 38-year career at Minster Machine Nidec, followed by 3 years as a consultant at Motoman. He was a very innovative engineer and was granted six patents as an inventor. He was a skilled craftsman who loved woodworking. He enjoyed golf and family camping adventures in his younger years. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, Knights of Columbus, and Minster F.O.E. #1391. He enjoyed above all spending happy times with family and friends. He took great pride in all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, on Wednesday, October 1 from 4 to 7 PM and Thursday, October 2 from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
