Dennis H. Homan, age 83, of Maria Stein, Ohio passed away at 12:08 AM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Gardens in Celina, Ohio.

Dennis was born May 18, 1932 in St. Rose, Ohio to John and Elenora (Schmitmeyer) Homan in the home where he resided his whole life. He loved his wife, Louise (Hilgefort) Homan, of almost 60 years whom he married on August 8, 1956 and she survives in Maria Stein.

He is also survived by 5 sons: Roger & Deborah (Siefring) Homan, Montezuma; Ralph & Theresa (Klosterman) Homan, Portland, IN; George & Patricia (May) Homan, Portland, IN; Thomas & Kimberly (Albers) Homan, Portland, IN and Kevin & Lisa (Moeller) Homan, Maria Stein.  Also 20 grandchildren, Kurt and Kristi (Miller) Homan, Brian Homan and Jesse Overmyer, Kraig and Emily (Laux)Homan, Julia and Dale Everman, Kyle Homan, Kent and Kim (Haffner)Homan, Eric and Andrea (Stachler)Homan, Stephanie and Adam May, Michael Homan, Kendra and Lance Muhlenkamp, Laura Homan, Travis, Trevor, Chad, Ryan, Dylan, Evan, Braydan and Trent Homan. And 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters Pauline Timmerman, Coldwater, and Alice Post, St. Henry. And in laws Verona Boecker, Minster; Mary Ann Heitkamp, Versailles; Robert Hilgefort, Sidney; Rose Mary Heitkamp, McCartyville; and Louis and Phyllis Hilgefort, Ft. Loramie.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Renee Homan and a great granddaughter, Reece Homan; and in laws Melvin Timmerman, Alvin Post, Hugo and Norma (Hilgefort) Post, Bernard Boecker, Jerome Hietkamp, Rita (Albers) Hilgefort, Norbert Heitkamp, Wilbert and Kelly (Hilgefort) Bruns.

Dennis attended school in the one room school house in St. Rose. He played football for St. Johns High School for two years. He quit school on his 16th birthday to help on the family farm. Dennis was in the Armed Forces in 1953. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and its Men’s Sodality. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 571, the Knights of St. Johns, and the Minster Eagles. In 1958 he formed what is the current Homan, Inc. and was on the Badger Presidents Council for 12 years. He was a life time farmer and enjoyed farming with his sons and grandchildren more than any other activity. He and his wife, Louise travelled extensively and saw many parts of the world, but he was always happy to be back home on the farm again. He was also an avid Euchre player and enjoyed playing 3 to 4 times a week.

He was most proud that all of his family lived close to home and came to visit often. His favorite saying translated from German was, “Work hard, so when you are old, you are stiff like me.”

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at St. Rose Church. Burial with military rites will be held at St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 pm Tuesday and 9 to 10 am Wednesday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com
