Dennis F. Brackman

Dennis F. Brackman, age 86, of Centerville, formerly of St. Henry, died on November 12, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton.

He was born September 29, 1934 to Ray and Anna (Grube) Brackman. On May 25, 1957, he married Thelma Rose, who preceded him in death. Survivors include sons Gary (Rosemary) of Tampa, FL, Neal (Lynne) of Mason, Dale of Hilliard, Michael of Indianapolis, IN, Craig of Tipp City, Doug (Carol) of Springboro, Kevin (Leslie) of Akron, and daughters Cheryl (Greg) Gudorf of San Diego, CA and Trina (Kevin) Bruening of Springboro. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Other immediate family member survivors include a sister Annette (Dale) Sutter and sisters-in-law Frances Brackman and Joann Brackman. Deceased members of his immediate family include brothers Linus, Alvin (infant), and Cyril, sister-in-law Marjorie Rethman and grandson, Matthew Brackman.  Surviving in-laws include Leonard Rethman, Dennis (Sally) Rose, Wilma (Robert) Edmondson, Dorothy Rose, Betty (Denny) Kugler and Linda (Gary) Stelzer.

Denny graduated with a Bachelors Degree from the University of Dayton, and a Masters Degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He served for two years in the United States Army in Europe.

His career in education was as a junior high school teacher and then later as the elementary principal for St. Henry Schools. Following his public school retirement, he taught at the St. Henry Catechetical Center and served as the treasurer for the Mercer County Retired Teachers Association for many years.

He had a sixty year avocation as a church organist in various churches in Mercer County, primarily St. Joseph in St. Joe, St. Bernard in Burkettsville, Holy Trinity in Coldwater, and Mary, Help of Christians in Ft. Recovery. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.

The family would like to receive friends but due to COVID-19 concerns, viewing will be private at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. A mass of Christian Burial following all CDC guidelines will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16 at St. Henry Catholic Church.  Live streaming at https://sthenrycluster.com/livestream/ .

A private burial, immediate family only, will be held at the St. Henry Cemetery following the mass.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed at hogenkampfh.com.
