Delbert “Jiggs” Thobe age 95 of Maria Stein, Ohio, died on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at his home in Maria Stein. He was born on April 15, 1929 near Maria Stein to the late Henry & Matilda (Heitkamp) Thobe. On October 14, 1953 He married Velma Schlater in St. Nicholas Church, Osgood and she survives in Maria Stein. He is also survived by children: Joe & Karen Thobe Cassella, Jon & Patti Thobe, Maria Stein, Jill & Scott LaFleur Savannah, GA, Jana & Steve Muhlenkamp, Ft. Recovery, 9 grandchildren: Corey & Shelly Thobe, Kasey & Cory Barlage, Kristen & Eric Grilliot, Molly & Brad Spettel, Mason & Kora Thobe, Sara LeFleur & fiancé Trent Hall, Sean LaFleur, Rashell & Dan Sutter, Ryan & Faith Muhlenkamp, 18 great grandchildren, brothers & sisters: Martha Warner, New Bremen, Don & Patty Thobe, Maria Stein, Roland “Brownie” & Shirley Thobe, Margie Moeller, Cassella, Lois & Jay Hogenkamp Carthagena, Larry Thobe, St. Marys, in-laws, Jean Thobe, Maria Stein, Elmer & Carol Schlater, Sidney, Marlene Crusey, Sidney, Martha Schlater- Thobe, Coldwater. He was preceded in death by siblings: Virgil “Butch” & Mary Thobe, Werner “Barney” & Mary Thobe, Alice & Leonard Varno, Harold “Whitey” & Ginny Thobe, Elton “Buck” & Norma Thobe, Mary Catherine “Toot” & John Mescher, Marilyn & Dale Miller, David “Dutch” Thobe, in-laws Linda Thobe, David Moeller, Herb & Nettie Schlater, Alma Schlater, Al & Norma Schlater, Delores & Bob Peltier, Vernon & Lou Schlater, Norb & Vera Schlater, Urban Schlater, Joe Crusey & Cy Thobe. Jiggs was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, the Men’s Sodality. He served in the US Army and graduated from the National Radio Institute, Washington DC. He owned and operated Thobe TV until his retirement a few weeks ago. He was a member of the Marria Stein American Legion, Knights of St. John, Mercer County Elks and the Chickasaw VFW. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Marion Local Flyers, Cincinnati Reds and loved golfing. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein. Burial with full military honors to follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 3 to 7 PM and on Tuesday, May 14 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Mass will be livestreamed.
