David B. York

David B. York, age 87 of Russia, Ohio, died Monday, September 28, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was born April 25, 1939, in Versailles, to the late Benjamin & Hilda (Borchers) York. He married Bonnie Arling on May 2, 1964, in St. Nicholas Church, Osgood. She survives in Russia. He is also survived by children: Carla & Mike Meyer, Russia, Ken & Shelly York, Russia, Tim & Jill York, Russia, Cheryl & Dale Winner, Versailles, Gina & Dan Poling, Russia, Mike & Maria York, Russia, Maria & Jeff Hoehne, Russia, Carrie & Bruce Borchers, Russia, 47 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, brothers and sisters: Rose & Chuck Olson, Bloomington, MN, Jim York & his first wife Ann (deceased) and his second wife Marilyn (deceased), Versailles, Denny & Trudy York, Russia, Steve & Bonnie York, Russia, Kathy & Bob Frey, Versailles, Carl & Betty York, Russia, in-laws: Teresa Heyne, Coldwater, Velma Schlater, North Star, Nick & Linda Arling, Osgood. He was preceded in death by in-laws: Marietta & Ed Unrast, Roman & Mildred Evers, Norma & Louis Heyne, Alfrieda & Art Lange, Leroy Heyne, Urban & Irma Arling, Ed Schlater, Frank & Mary Ann Arling.

He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, where he was a lector and Eucharistic Minister. After 37 years of dedicated work, he retired from United Parcel Service in 1996. Dave’s dream was to be a lifelong farmer along the side of his family, and he fulfilled this desire until the day he died. He was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus served as Grand Knight. He was a founding member of the Russia Park Board, and was on the Minster Farmers Co-Op Board. Dave and his wife traveled to Haiti on many trips with the St. Remy Haiti Mission Group, and he was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. Dave was known for his love of telling stories and for his joyous laugh. He loved teaching his grandkids about farming and taught them many life lessons, as they were his pride and joy. Dave & Bonnie prayed nightly for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by name. He considered them his greatest accomplishment and greatest gift from God.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia. Burial will follow at St. Remy Cemetery, Russia. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia, from 2 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and from 9 to 10 AM on Friday, October 2.
