Dale P. Smoke' Schmackers, age 54, of Carthagena, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne. He was born July 6, 1960 in Coldwater, to the late Victor & Mary Ann (Reigelsperger) Schmackers. He married Susan (Arling) on May 7, 1983 at St. Louis Church in North Star and she survives in Carthagena. He is also survived by two children, Josh & Liz Schmackers of St. Henry and Rachel & Ryan Winner of Dublin, three grandchildren, Lucas and Nicholas Schmackers and Julian Winner, brothers and sisters, Rich & Marty Schmackers of St. Henry, Elaine & Gene Grube of Ft. Recovery, Janice & Jerry Buschur of St. Henry, Nancy & Denny Muhlenkamp of Montezuma, Joyce & Dave Bruns of St. Henry and Roger & Angie Schmackers of Ft. Recovery, parents-in-law, Urban & Irma Arling of North Star, and in-laws, Steve & Tammie Arling of Pennsylvania, Dan Arling of North Star, Jean & Buddy Hyman of Coldwater, Deb & Keith Hartzell of Versailles, Beck & Glenn Miller of St. Henry, Paula & Keith Rammel of North Star and Rob & Jennifer Arling of Arcanum. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Schmackers. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Carthagena, St. Henry Knights of Columbus, Mercer County Elks and the Celina Moose. He worked for Columbus Financial Group. During Dale's journey in life, he found, served, and loved Jesus Christ. He also loved his wife, his children, his 3 grandsons, his brothers, sisters and other family members, and his many friends. Known as an avid fisherman, gardener, card player, and golfer, he rarely knew a stranger and brought so much love, joy, and laughter to so many lives. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 17 at St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
