Obituary

Craig “Elmer” W. Heitkamp, age 45, of Minster, Ohio, passed away peacefully at 3:40 AM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 22, 1981, in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Walter and Rita (Schulte) Heitkamp. Craig is survived by his siblings, Karen and Mike Long of Minster, Ron Heitkamp of Minster, Chris Heitkamp of Toledo, Teresa and Steve Prenger of Minster, and Ryan Heitkamp of Columbus; and his nieces and nephews, Mitch Long, Emily and Hunter Rayfield, Josh Heitkamp, Noah Heitkamp, Spencer Prenger, Tyler and Hayley Prenger, Alayna Prenger, and Evan Prenger. Craig was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein and was employed by Four Star Veterinary Service. He was an avid Marion Local and Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed farming, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. Craig never knew a stranger. He had a kind and generous heart, was always ready to lend a helping hand, and had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Mass will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Chickasaw, Ohio. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 4 to 8 PM and on Saturday, August 22 from 9:00 AM to 10AM.  Burial will be held at a later date.
