Charles E. Wendeln age 70 of Russia died at 8:15 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on January 5, 1946 in Ft. Loramie, Ohio to the late Harry & Arnolda (Hilgefort) Wendeln. He married Kay Francis on May 17, 1969 in Russia, Ohio. She survives in Russia. He is also Survived by children: Courtney & Eric Deutsch, Oakwood, Ohio, Casey & Lia Wendeln, Chicago, Andrew Wendeln, Dayton, Brady Wendeln, Chicago, Grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, Charlotte, Ella & Cameron, in-laws Mary Wendeln, Ft. Loramie, Gail Wendeln, Ft. Loramie, Irma Wendeln, Sidney, Patricia Howie, Louisville, KY, Janice Phillips, Esconido, CA, Bonnie & Jack Buschur, Minster. He was preceded in death by brothers Al & Jean, Don & Laura, Leo, Ted & John, sister Rita & Ed Hasselman and in-laws George Howie & Tim Phillips. He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, a past Grand Knight of the Russia K of C, and a member of Knights of St. John Ft. Loramie. He was a past member of the Russia Volunteer Fire Department, former Russia Village Council Member and former Mayor of Russia and instrumental in getting the Russia Branch of the Amos Memorial Public Library. HE was the co-owner of Ft. Loramie Cast Stone Products. He was a graduate of Ft. Loramie High School in 1964 and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. His other interests were playing golf, softball, bowling, Trivia and singing Karaoke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. Remy Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Fox celebrant. Burial will be in St. Remy Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia, OH from 12 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, February 7, 2016 and from 9 to 10 AM on Monday, February 8, 2016. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Miami Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Russia Branch of Amos Memorial Public Library.
