Charles A. Schmidt, age 85, of Coldwater, died on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima. He was born June 19, 1934, in Coldwater to the late Henry & Leona (Siegrist) Schmidt. On July 7, 1956, he married Vera (Bey) Schmidt, and she survives in Coldwater. Charles is also survived by children, Linda & Adrian Wenning of Celina, Diana & Michael Entrup of Philothea, Darlene & Greg Stewart of Lima, and Ronald & Vicki Schmidt of Celina. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ben & Katie Wenning, Derek & Amy Wenning, Brittany & Adam Jardy, Nick Schmidt, Joe & Cassie Schmidt, Blake Schmidt, Ashley & Brock Dubry, and Brandon Dellinger; 11 great-grandchildren, as well as siblings and in-laws, Ivo & Rosie Schmidt of Coldwater, Virgil & Velma Schmidt of Chickasaw, Eileen Eckstein of Greenville, Paul & Janet Schmidt of Millford, Urban & Sandy Schmidt of Millford, and Helen & Doyle Layne of Troy. He is preceded in death by grandchild, Tyler Dellinger; siblings and in-laws, Virginia & Elmer Walterbusch, Clem Eckstein, Jean Schluter, Ed & Betty Buzard, John & Janet Bey, Roger & Marie Bey, and Judy & Wayne Homan . Charles was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. He was retired from New Idea and Mersman Brothers in Celina. Charles always enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles was an avid painter. He also enjoyed collecting beer cans, making wine, watching race cars and cheering on the Reds. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call on Thursday, September 5, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
