Charles Koester
On September 30, 2020, Charles 'Charlie' Koester, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at age 87. Charlie was born on February 21, 1933 in Celina to the late Ted and Hilda (Hoelscher) Koester. After attending St. Henry High School, he began work as an electrician, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and co-founded Koester Electric, Inc. with his sons. On April 11, 1953 at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star, he married Aneta Werling. They raised five children, Steven, Jeffrey, Thomas, Rebecca and Michael. Charlie had a passion for projects, gardening, and coaching, especially his many years of coaching the Werling Motors little league team. He loved to watch birds and squirrels and spend time with his family. He was known for his kind and compassionate spirit.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Aneta and children: Jeff & Linda Koester, Tom & Jaci Koester, Rebecca Koester Kelly, Mike & Christy Koester, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Pat & John Jansen of Carthagena and Mary & Dick Franck of St. Henry. Surviving in-laws are Linda Koester of Montezuma, Edna & Bob Stout of St. Henry, W. H. (Bill) Werling of Brookville, Ken & Betty Werling of Celina, and Doris & Larry Salm of Coldwater.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ted & Hilda Koester, his son, Steve, and great-grandson, Jaxson Koester; his siblings and in-laws John (Gene) & Edna Koester, Al & Madonna Hart, Jim Koester, Ralph Koester, L.C. (Peanuts) & Mary Jean Werling, and Barbara Werling. Charlie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knight of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion, Coldwater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. A burial with military will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Family and Friends may call on Sunday, October 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care, 230 W. Main Street, Coldwater, OH 45828. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
