Charles G. Heinl, age 85, of 8329 St Rt 119, Maria Stein, Ohio, died at 12:25 AM on Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home. He was born January 08, 1926 in Wapakoneta, Ohio to the late Anthony & Cora (Fisher) Heinl. On July 15, 1950 he married Rita (Menker) in Maria Stein, Ohio, and she survives in Maria Stein. He is also survived by two sons, John & Sheila Heinl of New Carlisle, Ohio and Mark & Sandra Heinl of Coldwater, Ohio, a brother, Larry Heinl of Minster, Ohio, three sisters, Joan Heckman, Alice Kuehner and Barbara & Dennis Meyer, all of Minster, Ohio, seven grandchildren, Matthew Heinl, Hannah Heinl, Joshua Heinl, Ashlee & Matthew Botkin, Mark Heinl II, Cassandra Heinl and Spencer Heinl, two great-grandchildren, Izaak Botkin and Kynlee Botkin, and two sisters-in-law Lucille & Don Heric of Maria Stein, Ohio and Ruth Stammen of New Weston, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his stepmother Edith (Wehrle), a brother, Fr. David Heinl, two sisters, Mary Angela Heinl and Hilda Morsey, three brothers-in-law, Irwin Morsey, Bob Heckman and Tom Kuehner, and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Stammen, Irene & Paul Kleinhenz, Joe Kleinhenz, Alice Menker and Mary Ann Menker. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein and its men's society and was a past president of the Knights of St. John, Uniform Rank. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Gambier Bay during World War II. He was the founder, former president, treasurer and secretary of the USS Gambier Bay CVE 73 VC 10 Association. He was a member of the Maria Stein American Legion Post #571, where he was a former commander and member of the color guard, and the Chickasaw V.F.W. Post #9019, where he was also a former commander. Received the Distinguished Developer Award in 2001 from the Marion Community Development Organization, was a member of the Minster Eagles #1391 and was a former licensed private pilot. He was the owner/operator of the former Heinl Grocery in Maria Stein for 30 years and was retired from Crown Controls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, Ohio with Fr. Tom Brenberger, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Maria Stein, Ohio, with military rites. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-Coldwater on Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM. Memorials may be directed to State of the Heart Hospice.
