Carl L. Harting, age 92, of Philothea, died on Monday, June 23 2014 at his home. He was born March 23, 1922 in Celina, to the late William & Anna (Bertke) Harting. On December 28, 1957, he married Bertha J. (Fortkamp), and she died, October 12, 2009. He is survived by a daughter, Ann & Galen Harrod of Rossburg, a son, Carl Jr. & Mary Ann Harting of Philothea, five grandchildren, Amanda & Marty Schoenherr, Craig Harting, Brian Harrod, Beth Harrod and Kevin Harrod, a great-grandchild, Scarlet Schoenherr, brothers and sisters, Roman Harting of Dayton, Richard Harting of Beavercreek, Maurice & Mary Ann Harting of Coldwater, Ruth Luthman of St. Marys, and Sally Abele of Dayton, and in-laws, Rita Harting of Minster, Agnes Puthoff of St. Henry and Jean Fortkamp of Coldwater. He is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Eugene & Margaret Harting, Paul Harting, Virginia Harting, and Walter Harting and in-laws, Mary Harting, Dorothea Harting, Lawrence Luthman, Tom Abele, Martha Mescher, Clara Schweickart, Joe Fortkamp, August Fortkamp, Carl Fortkamp, and Linus Fortkamp. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Philothea, and its Men's Sodality. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. He retired to the farm, after working at Frigidaire in Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Philothea. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
