Bernard S. “Red” Hoying, age 88, of Celina, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. Red was born July 23, 1928 in McCartyville, to the late Bernard & Anna (Baumer) Hoying. He married Rita Hess on August 10, 1957, and she survives in Coldwater. He is also survived by three children, Ken & Karen Hoying of Coldwater, Ron & Linda Hoying of Celina, and Sharon & Mark Francis of New Bremen, seven grandchildren: Laura, Adam, Megan, Emily, Megan, Eric, and Craig, and three great grandchildren: Ava, Everett, and Olivia. Red is survived by a sister Marilyn & Dennis Ross of Kettering, and sisters in-law: Janet Hoying of Anna, Henrietta Hoying of McCartyville, and Mary Hess of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by siblings: Delores & Harold Bensman, Wilfred Hoying, Wilbur Hoying, an infant sister Norma Hoying, and in-laws: Urban & Adella Hess, Bertha & Ernest Beckstedt, Monica & Gregor Grevenkamp, Jerome & Eleanor Hess, Victor Hess, and Arthur & Addy Hess. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma, the Holy Name Society, and was a former member of the church choir. He was also a member of the Knights of St. John, Maria Stein, and retired from Goodyear Tire in St. Marys. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery, Montezuma. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home – Coldwater. Memorials contributions may be made to the Maria Stein Shrine.
