Alma T. Schmitmeyer, 95, of St. Henry, Ohio passed away on Friday,
September 20, 2024, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater with family by
her side. She was born November 7, 1928, in Cassella to the late
Clarence & Philomena (Homan) Dirksen. On January 6, 1951, she married
Ernest Schmitmeyer, and he died on May 16, 2008. She is survived by
children and their spouses: John Schmitmeyer of Versailles, Patrick
(Cathy) Schmitmeyer of Celina, Bob (Mary Lou) Schmitmeyer of St.
Henry, Marilyn (Ron) Poeppelman of Ft. Loramie, Ann (Paul) Barhorst of
Anna, Lois (Dave) Schwieterman of Celina, Jean (John) Homan of New
Bremen, Linda (Kevin) Muhlenkamp of Bryant, IN and Steve (Karen)
Schmitmeyer of St. Henry; a daughter-in-law Linda (Joe) Giere of
Versailles; 59 grandchildren and 189 great-grandchildren; siblings and
in-laws: Joan Poeppelman of Yorkshire, Ruth (Marvin) Evers of St.
Henry, Sally Dirksen of Portland, Judy Dirksen of Cassella, Mildred
Schmitmeyer of Coldwater, Eunice (Willard) Dahlinghaus of Minster,
Martin (Marie) Schmitmeyer of Celina, Henrietta (Ivo) Knapke of
Versailles, Ella Mae (Roger) Watercutter of Ft. Wayne, IN. She is
preceded in death by a son Joseph Schmitmeyer; a daughter Lucy
Schmitmeyer, a daughter-in-law Marlene Schmitmeyer; grandson Ben
Homan; and siblings and in-laws: Herb (Mary) Dirksen, Rita (Ed) Evers,
Helen (George) Wenning, Esther (Orville) Winner, Louis Dirksen, Dennis
Dirksen, John Poeppelman, Luke Schmitmeyer, Marian (Greg) Evers, Sr.
Lucille Schmitmeyer, Evelyn (Louis) Bruns, and Lucille Schmitmeyer.
Alma was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the St. Francis
Ladies Sodality. She was a devoted, faithful, and loving wife,
mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on September 28,
at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville. Burial in St.
Francis Cemetery, Cranberry will follow the funeral mass. Friends may
call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry on Friday, September 27
from 2:00-7:00 PM and Saturday, September 28 from 9:00-10:00 AM. There
will be a private viewing for the immediate family, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren from 7:00-8:30 PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers,
