Dorothy M. Kuess, 90, formerly of Jefferson Street, Maria Stein, died at 7:25 a.m. March 8, 2004, at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born Oct. 13, 1913, in St. Henry, to George and Bernadine Schmackers Lefeld. On May 5, 1934, she married Harold Seger who died June 2, 1935. On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Joseph Buening who died Feb. 20, 1976. On Feb. 11, 1977, she married Richard Kuess who died Oct. 5, 2003.
Surviving are three sons, George (Rosemary) Bruns, Celina, Leonard Bruns, Greenville, and Alvin (Jan) Bruns, Sidney; two daughters, Dolores (John) Gaier and Helen (George) Barhorst, all of Fort Loramie; and two stepsons, Othmar (Nancy Jean) Kuess, Celina, and Virgil (Rita) Kuess, Chickasaw.
Other survivors include four brothers, Ed (Viola) Lefeld, St. Wendelin, and Ben (Agnes) Lefeld, Henry (Trudy) Lefeld and Martin (Mary Ann) Lefeld, all of St. Henry; two sisters, Agnes Pohlman, Maria Stein, and Bernie Homan, St. Henry; three sisters-in-law, Sally Lefeld, Cecelia Cron and Rita Penno, all of Coldwater; 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Joseph and Seraphim Lefeld, and a sister, Alvina Stammen.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of St. John Auxiliary 288 and its drill team, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 571 and the Retreat League, all of Maria Stein. She also was a Eucharistic minister and organized the senior citizens program at the Knights of St. John. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Harry Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
