Thomas A. Schwartz, age 72, of 830 Linden Ave. in Celina, passed away at 8:00p.m. on Thursday February 7, 2008 at his residence in Celina. Thomas was born on May 22, 1935 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Norbert & Loretta ( Reinbolt ) Schwartz. On Nov. 28, 1957 he married his wife of fifty years, Jean E. Kirwen, who survives living in Celina. Also surviving are nine children and their spouses Thomas & Traci Schwartz of Weatherford; Texas, Marilyn & James Tracy of Enlglewood; Mary Love, Celina; Steven & Ute Schwartz of St. Marys; Marta & Jimmy Calderone of Lawrence, Kansas; Maureen & Steven Maine of Ephrata, Washington, Michelle & Dr. Steven Schwieterman of Roanoke, IN; and James & Dana Schwartz of Roy, Washington; and John Schwartz of San Francisco, California; 20 Grandchildern, one brother & sister-in-law Robert & Barbara Schwartz of Michigan. He is preceded in death by his sister Jeanne Schwartz. He graduate from St. Joseph High School in Fremont, Ohio. After College Thomas was a consultant for the Attwell, Vogel and Sterling and Acme Underwriting Company. Then Thomas was elected for two terms on Fremont, City Council. He then became the Director of Public Services and Safety for the City of Bellevue Ohio from 1972 to 1979. In 1980 he became the Director of Public Service and Safety for the City of Celina. On July 1, 1999 he retired from the City of Celina after 19 ½ years of service.
He was a Board member and Past President of the Ohio Municipal Electric Asso.. He was a Committee Chairman for the American Municipal Power of Ohio and a Board member of the Ohio Public Power Educational Institute. He was a trustee and Vice-President of the Lake Development Corporation of Grand Lake St. Marys. He was Chairman of the Ohio conference for International Ozone Association in 1985. He was a member of the Ohio Development Association , Ohio Association of Public Safety Directors and Ohio City Management Association.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, with Fr. Thomas Brenberger C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina. Friends may call from 2-8p.m. on Monday Feb. 11, 2008 and before 10:00a.m. on Tuesday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. On-line condolence may be made at lhdfuneralhome.com.
