Virgil E. Bertke, age 76, of Maria Stein, Ohio, died Friday, February 1, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster, Ohio. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was also a member of Men's Sodality Of Church, Knights of St. John, Uniform Rank in Maria Stein, OH, Maria Stein American Legion #571, V. F. W. Chickasaw Past President of Mercer County Right to Life. He Served in the Army during Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was a retired mason at Bernard Masonary, Maria Stein, Ohio. He was born June 22, 1931 in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late Ado & Justine (Bruns) Bertke. He married H.June Hixson on May 11, 1957 in Frenchtown, Ohio. She survives in Maria Stein, Ohio. He is survived by his; Daughters, Sue & Dennis Mueller of Centerville, Ohio, Karen & Kent Shaner of Maria Stein, Ohio, Nancy Bertke of Centerville, Ohio; Sons, Rick Bertke of Brandon, Fla., Paul & Angie Bertke of Kettering, Ohio, Dale & Sandy Bertke of Saint Henry, Ohio, Jim & Annette Bertke of New Bremen, Ohio; One Sister, Martha Siegrist of Beavercreek, Ohio; sister-in-law Connie Kellenberger, Columbus, Ohio; Fifteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother-in-laws, John Siegrist, Donald Kellenberger. Arrangements are being handled by N.J. Hogenkamp Sons, Inc., 61 South Hanover St., Minster, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2008 and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2008, Rev. Harry Cavanaugh Celebrant. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery in Maria Stein, Ohio. Full Military Honors will be held at the Graveside. Memorials may be made to Cancer Association of Mercer County.
