Cyril ( Cy ) Edwin Bertke age 90, formerly of Zillah St. in Celina passed away at 5:00p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2008 at the Otterbein Home in St. Marys. He was born on June 16, 1917 to the late Leo & Anna (Lindhaus) Bertke in Cassella, Ohio. On Oct. 4, 1949 he married his wife of 55 yrs, Dorothy E. Dahlinghaus, who died on Aug. 24, 2004. Survivors include his son Don Bertke of Dayton, daughters & sons-in-law Sharon & Mike Lhamon of Saint Marys, Denise & Phil Keegan of Middletown, 4 grandchildren Andy & Beth Lhamon & Katie & Brian Vanderhorst, Alex & Sam Keegan, 1 great-grandchild Jacob Lhamon, brothers & sisters-in-law Wilbur & Anna Marie Bertke of St. Henry, Louis & Evelyn Bertke of Cassella, Ernest & Rita Bertke of Centerville, sisters and brothers-in-law Norma & Norb Otting of Minster.
He is Preceded in death by his brothers & sister-in-law Leander (Charlie) & Alvera Bertke, Dennis Bertke, sisters and brother-in-law Mary Ann Bertke, Marinus Bertke and Euleta & Werner Bensman. He went to St. Henry High School, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII and served in Africa and Italy. He was a Band Saw operator for 40 years at Mersman Brother in Celina, where he retired from in 1982. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina and the Holy Name Society of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
